A Bridal Guide: Your Essential Wedding Day Preparation Checklist

Every time I get booked for a wedding, I make sure to send my brides a handy checklist. I get it, wedding planning can be overwhelming, even with a planner on board. So, here's a little something to help you get ready for your big day.

Here's a checklist to make sure you're looking and feeling amazing on your wedding day. Just remember, try not to stress too much about it. I know, easier said than done!


1. Skin Appointment: One of the most important things is having flawless skin on your wedding day. You may forget what happened but your pictures will remind you how happy and stunning you looked. Do not schedule any skin treatments and facials on the week of your wedding. Do it early on, in case you get any reactions, and allow the skin to heal.


2. Skin care: Establish a skin care routine as early as possible, if you haven’t yet. Make sure to do it regularly.


3. Stress Management: Stress weakens the immune system. It can disrupt your sleep. You want to feel and look your best on your wedding day. Do whatever you can to relax, stretching, yoga, meditation, listening to music, massage, whatever works for you.

4. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Your whole body, especially your arms, hands, face, and neck. These will be most photographed. Everyone’s going to want to see your ring. It’s good to have nice, moisturized, clean hands. 


Brush your lips lightly with a soft toothbrush. Apply petroleum jelly to keep the moisture in.    


5. Hair: Shampoo less to keep it from getting dry. Use conditioner to keep your hair looking healthy, smooth, and shiny. Don’t get a haircut or any hair treatments 2 weeks before your wedding. Plan early. Plan ahead. Now is not the time to experiment with your hair.


6. Hydrate: Skip the alcohol, drink water, green or fresh juices.

7. Brows: Please let a professional shape your brows.


8. Teeth: You will be smiling a lot in photos and talking to people. Again, don’t do anything drastic 2 weeks prior. Invest in teeth whitening. 


Use straws when drinking coffee or red wine or any drink that would leave a stain. 


9. Nails: Get a regular manicure. Go for neutral colors.

10. Health: Stick to healthy habits, exercise, and get good sleep.


NIGHT BEFORE AND ON THE DAY OF YOUR WEDDING DAY


1. Get a good night’s sleep.

2. Drink lots of water.


3. Relax and get pampered. Let your coordinator, vendors, friends, and family worry about everything. 


4. Use straws when drinking. This is to avoid teeth stains and keep the lipstick in place.

5. Eat a good breakfast.


6. Snack on fruits or veggies, until you walk down the aisle. I've assisted Brides who were too anxious to eat. I continually remind them, and in some cases, I've even had to help feed them. Don’t go hungry and definitely not intoxicated.

7. Have a small bag of personal items, touch-up kit, mints, and leave them with your mom or best friend.

8. Don’t wear a bra or anything that would leave a mark on your body (if you’re wearing a dress that would expose your shoulders, chest, and back.)


9. Wear slippers while getting ready. Keep your feet comfortable.

10. Listen to good music or watch something funny. This will help with any anxiety you may have.


11. Write a love note.
